Mortal Danger (Immortal Game, #1)
Mortal Danger
(Immortal Game #1)
Ann Aguirre
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
To be released: August 5, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn't imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She's not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, and he's impossible to forget.

In one short summer, her entire life changes, and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly... bad things are happening. It's a heady rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turns from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil's bargains, she isn't sure who—or what--she can trust. Not even her own mind...

Something about this book's cover is extremely intriguing to me. It's simple, but creepy and captivating, which ties in well with the synopsis. I'm excited to see how this story pans out and hope it lives up to the awesome description.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. I had to do this as my WoW. I've been dying to read this since Fiery Heart, because hello, that cliffhanger! This book comes out this month, thank goodness! Waiting on Wednesday (97) - Mortal Gods by Kendare Blake

Mortal Gods (Goddess War, #2)
Mortal Gods
(Goddess War #2)
Kendare Blake
Publisher: Orchard Books
To be release: September 1, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

Ares, God of War, is leading the other dying gods into battle. Which is just fine with Athena. She's ready to wage a war of her own, and she's never liked him anyway. If Athena is lucky, the winning gods will have their immortality restored. If not, at least she'll have killed the bloody lot of them, and she and Hermes can die in peace.

Cassandra Weaver is a weapon of fate. The girl who kills gods. But all she wants is for the god she loved and lost to return to life. If she can't have that, then the other gods will burn, starting with his murderer, Aphrodite.

The alliance between Cassandra and Athena is fragile. Cassandra suspects Athena lacks the will to truly kill her own family. And Athena fears that Cassandra's hate will get them ALL killed.

The war takes them across the globe, searching for lost gods, old enemies, and Achilles, the greatest warrior the world has ever seen. As the struggle escalates, Athena and Cassandra must find a way to work together. Because if they can't, fates far worse than death await.

I have been dying to read this book for ages! I loved Antigoddes, the first book in the series. I think it's a great retelling of the Greek myths and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Kendare Blake writing is fantastic and I know she won't disappoint in this sequel. I'll be counting down the days to September 1st.

To be released: July 8, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

Tristam of Brancel is a young Palace knight on a mission. And as their loyalties are tested to the breaking point, they learn a startling secret about Kyra’s past that threatens to reshape both their lives.

I cannot wait for this book to be released next month. I read the prequel Poison Dance and loved it. I'm super excited that Livia Blackburne will be doing a signing in Cambridge, MA at Porter Square Books on July 24th at 7pm, and hoping that nothing comes up between now and then that would prevent me from going.

Waiting on Wednesday (95) - The Unbound

The Unbound (The Archived #2)
Victoria Schwab
Publisher: Hyperion
To be released: January 28, 2014

Summary (from Goodreads):

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she's struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn't easy -- not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she's really safe.

Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She's sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she'll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?

With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

Oh man. I still can’t believe I have to wait until January 2014 to read this book. The Archived was amazing, and I expected nothing less from Victoria Schwab. The writing and the story were captivating and I cannot wait to find out what happens next in this unique world Victoria Schwab has created!

Summary (from Goodreads):

The second installment in the all-new series from the masterful, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater!

Waiting on Wednesday (93) - Deity

Deity
(Covenant #3)
Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
To be released: November 6, 2012

Summary (from Goodreads)

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

I had the first book to this series sitting on my shelf for over a year and decided to randomly read it one day this summer and OH MY GODS why did I wait so long? I immediately went and read the sequel and am now dying to read Deity. I plan on getting around to reviewing the first two books (I'm trying, but we shall see things hav been crazy for me), but seriously, this series is a new favorite. I cannot wait for the next book. I'm super excited, especially after how book 2 finished. Everyone should read this series. Cannot wait for November to see what happens next.

Waiting on Wednesday (92) - The Torn Wing

The Torn Wing
(The Faerie Ring #2)
Kiki Hamilton
Publisher: Tor Teen
To be released: October 2, 2012

Summary (from Goodreads):

A bloody escape, a deadly threat, a shocking revelation...

Tiki’s greatest fear suddenly becomes all too real: the fey have returned to London seeking revenge. As war escalates in the Otherworld, Queen Victoria’s youngest son, Prince Leopold, is attacked. In order to protect her family and those she loves, Tiki needs to know the meaning of an fáinne sí, the birthmark that winds around her wrist. But will she be brave enough to face the truth?

If you haven't read the first book in this series, The Faerie Ring, I highly suggest you go do that. It was one of my favorite books of 2012 and I cannot wait to read the sequel. I'm so excited to see what is gonna happen to Tiki next and to learn more about her. I'm dying for it to be October to read this book.

While I'll wait I'll just re-read my character interview with Tiki and author interview with Kiki to tide me over.

Waiting on Wednesday (91) - Perfect Scoundrels

Perfect Scoundrels
(Heist Society #3)
Ally Carter
Publisher: Hyperion Books for Children
To be released: February 5, 2013

Summary (from Goodreads):

Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it’s that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting—or stealing—whatever they want.

No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale’s family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother’s billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there’s no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won’t let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother’s will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company’s fortune. So instead of being the heir—this time, Hale might be the mark.

Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she’s willing to save her boyfriend’s company if it means losing the boy.

I love the Heist Society series and cannot wait for the next book in the series. I really like the summary of this book and I like that we shall see a lot of Hale since he's my favorite character (maybe we will finally find out his real name). I cannot wait to see what Kat and the gang get up to next. February seems to far away to wait!

Waiting on Wednesday (90) - The Archived

The Archived
Victoria Schwab
Publisher: Hyperion
To be released: January 22, 2013

 Summary (from Goodreads):

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn't just dangerous—it's a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da's death was hard enough, but now her little brother is gone too. Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hard-won redemption.

I cannot wait for Victoria Schwab's second book. Her first book, The Near Witch was amazing and so beautifully written. I loved it so much, some other bloggers and I made the The Near Witch Rap. I cannot wait to read the Archived. It sounds unique and awesome and I know the writing will be beautiful. The world can't end in December 2012 because I need to read this book first. Also, this cover is really, really cool.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...

Marlaena’s pack puts more pressure on the Rusakova family with the kidnapping of Jessie and the surprise that comes from triggering the wolf side of Pietr once again. Alexi realizes the impact of Pietr’s change sooner than either Jessie or Pietr and rushes to find a permanent cure for the life sentence lycanthropy brings in hopes it will squelch an unexpected side-effect. With the enrollment of the rest of the pack’s pups, Counselor Harnek, Sophie and Jessie decide to try training the pups alongside the other powerful misfits. But Dmitri’s influence is far-reaching and even pacifist Gareth must make a dark decision or risk the destruction of everything he holds dear

So if you couldn’t tell by how my blog is all WoW, I’m very behind on blogging. My fault, life has gotten in the way. I read Destiny and Deceptions, the fourth book in the 13 to Life series and really need to post my review for it, but in the mean time I thought I’d share the fifth book in the series.

I really love this series, and Shannon Delany is awesome. And with the ending of the 4th book I really cannot wait for this next book. Seriously, want now!

Waiting on Wednesday (87) - Sapphire Blue

Sapphire Blue
Kerstin Gier
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
To be released: October 30, 2012

Summary (from Goodreads):

Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean. At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.

This is one of those times I really wish I could read German so I could know how the next book in this amazing series goes! I loved Ruby Red and have been dying for the sequel. Too bad I have to wait for forever to read it! If only I could read German, the language these stories were originally published in, I’d know how the whole series ended.

Also, not sure how I feel about the cover. I know they redid the cover for Ruby Red since I read it, but this cover….hmmm….not sure if I like it or not. It’s so different from the German cover.

Waiting on Wednesday (86) - Hemlock

Hemlock
Kathleen Peacock
Publisher: HarperCollins
To be released: May 8, 2012

Summary (from Goodreads):

Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.

Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about
prejudice, trust, lies, and love.

I see the words “urban fantasy” in this description and that makes me want to read it. I love the idea of the “werewolf virus” that people are trying to hide. Also, there seems to be a little mystery thrown in there as well. This book just sounds really interesting. And isn’t that cover gorgeous. I really like it for some reason, maybe cause it has a bit of a darker feel to it?

Waiting on Wednesday (80) - Born Wicked

Born Wicked
Jessica Spotswood
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
To be released: February 7, 2012

Summary (from Goodreads):

A Great and Terrible Beauty meets Cassandra Clare in this spellbinding fantasy

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

At first I wasn’t that interested in this synopsis, but then reread it a few times and realized I’d probably really like this book. And now I really want to read it. So can it please be February now?
